Alternative Energy Restrictions

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Alternative Energy RestrictionsMany business owners as well as home owners are trying to get a proposal approved that will limit the amount of restrictions on how they are able to install and use solar panels; as well as other forms of alternative energy.

There is much debate over this issue and much of that revolves around Senate Bill 401 allowing outside companies to install, have and even maintain alternative energy systems. This would be possible as long as customers agreed to contracts over the long-term that requires them to pay for the electricity that is created by the system. This would include biomass, municipal solid waste, hydropower and landfill gas. The bill would also remove limits on how much alternative energy each individual would be able to use.

How Green Are You?

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

How Green Are YouWith so many people going out of their way to live ‘green’ lives, it got me thinking. How ‘green’ am I? While I realized I’m much ‘greener’ than I thought, there are many things about my life that I would like to change so I can help keep our planet Earth healthy. I have yet to get my license, so I save a lot of gas there. I walk everywhere I go, unless I’m going with someone else so not only am I getting a ton of exercise, but I’m also carpooling; which I feel really great about. You’d be surprised how much simply riding with someone else or taking the bus does for the environment. All of that pollution is no good for the environment. I’ve always been really into recycling, even before most people were. I think it’s important to take the time to separate your items and save the things that you can use again. I also go and get coffee often, so I decided to get a plastic coffee cup instead of wasting all the plastic at the local coffee shop. You’d be surprised how many people don’t do this. It upsets me how much trash gets thrown away there, when it could be recycled and used again. Instead of drinking bottled water, I choose to use my own cups because there’s no point in wasting products. I’m also big on keeping my receipts when I’m out and about and taking them home so I can recycle them because if you leave them with the cashier, they’re going to end up throwing them in the trash. While those are only a few things, I feel good about what I’m doing. I would love to have an energy friendly home one day, but that’s not something we can exactly afford right now. Hopefully in the future, we can change that. Using solar power would be really nice! Now it’s your turn. How ‘green’ are you? What kinds of things do you do that help the environment? Are there things you currently are doing that harm the environment, which you’d like to change?

Importance of Recycling Computer Equipment

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Computer EquipmenDid you know that your PC or Mac can be recycled? I’m sure you did. Why do we need this? Are our old home computers so harmful? Yes they are. This is so called electronic waste. Many developed countries provide special programs for recycling electronic waste. The main thing here is that computer devices contain various toxins and carcinogens which can waste our environment. They should be recycled to protect us and nature as well as to utilize usable materials repeatedly. I would like to take Canada as an example of long-term existing program of computer and electronic recycling.
